철학 수업 시간에 못 따라가겠어.

남 : The concepts are so confusing. 
개념들이 너무 헷갈려. 

여 : Right. I haven't got a clue what the professor is talking about. 
맞아. 교수님이 무슨 말을 하시는지 감도 못 잡겠어. 

남 : I'm glad we are in the same boat. 
우리가 같은 처지라니 위안이 된다. 

여 : Yes. I thought it was just me. 
그래. 나만 그런 줄 알았어.

단어 정리

be out of one's depth 이해가 (능력이) 미치지 못하는 / 힘에 겨운

Jisu found the scientific concepts too complex and went over her head. 
지수에게 그 과학적 개념들은 너무 복잡하여 그녀가 도무지 이해할 수가 없었다. 

Nick tried to explain the concept - but it went over their heads - so he used simpler words.
닉은 그 개념을 설명하려 애썼지만 그들에게는 버거웠기 때문에 그는 더 단순한 용어를 사용했다.

해석 : 신입 직원들은 그들의 직속 관리자의 승인을 받는다면 다른 지역 지점들로 전근을 신청할 수 있다. 

토익 RC 문제 풀이 문장 해석 : 위 문제는 부사절 접속사 채우기 문제로 주어 new employees와 동사 may apply for / 목적어 transfer를 모두 갖춘 완전한 문장이므로 수식어 거품절을 이끌 수 있는 부사절 접속사 A, B가 정답 후보다. 다음 문맥에 따라 (A) provided that (만약 ~라면)이 정답이다. as though를 사용할 경우 '그들의 직속 관리자의 승인을 받는 것처럼'이라는 어색한 문맥이 된다. 또한 전치사 c와 d는 수식어 거품절을 이끌 수 없다.
